A and AIR 76……

Hello Ish! Hey Tigger! I guess its just you two with me these days, huh? Thanks for sticking with me, while my posts get less consistent, less funny, more boring and more depressing.

But, I promise, you like this post or you don’t, you’ll have fun reading it. Ok, I’ve got two stories to tell you. They’re both in 3rd person…..But first let me tell you what I’ve been upto these few days. Well, I watched Jannat, which I liked and watched Se7en, which I did not like, also saw MP3 which I liked as well. I also read the three mistakes, by Chetan Bhagat, was cool, but kind of weak as compared to FPS or call center. Also read the kite runner by Khaled Housini, which was totally awesum, couldn’t get the characters out of my head for a weak. And that thing about Yelda was so cool, I loved it. Also read The Alchemist and didn’t like it, it was so very boring, don’t know why everyone praises it so much……. Anway, back to the stories

Lets start with AIR 76

Anand, pretty much a normal guy. Hailing from Delhi, he had much more sense of style than others, was good looking, ok in studies, and good in sports. He joined Bansal Classes, not really because he wanted to be an engineer, but because that is the only thing his father had suggested and he didn’t know what else to do with his life, so he decided to go along with it. He came in a good batch, even after not having taken the entrance seriously. He found the life of Kota boring until one day, when the course of his entire life changed, when he saw her. He fell in love with a girl in his batch. He, somehow, got to know about the hostel where she lived, and bribed the gate keeper to deliver a package to her. But, unfortunate as it was, the package was found by the hostel matron. She opened it up and found a card and a bracelet. She took it to the girl involved and said that she was gonna take serious action. The girl said that she would tell Bansal sir herself about this. When the matron was gone, she read the letter. It had a beautiful poem and a message telling her about Anand’s identity. He had written that if her answer is yes, then she comes to the class wearing that bracelet, and he’ll understand, and if the answer is no, she could throw it all in the dustbin, no hard feelings. The girl gave the package to Bansal sir the next norning….

He called an assembly and announced in front of everyone what had happened. Anand packed his bags and left that evening only. When teachers asked about him, they got to know that he had left a letter for Bansal sir. Although the letter said that he had left cuz he couldn’t face bansal sir, but Anand knew that it was not the truth. Bansal sir even called him a couple of times, that it was not his mistake and he could come back, but he refused. He was just sad, that she could have thrown that away if she didn’t like him, why did she tell bansal sir?

He was depressed for a month. Not eating anything, not studying anything, wasting his entire time. But his father understood him, and he said that don’t make your love your weakness, make your love for that girl, your inspiration. He told him to work hard and if he was able to stand tall on his feet, his father would himself go to the girl’s house to ask for her hand for Anand.

So he worked hard, more than anyone, in private tutions, self study, he gave it all he had, and he got A.I.R. 76 in IIT-JEE examination. He went to Bansal classes that very day, enquired about the girl’s address, and went to her house. As he had got to know, she had captured a 2000 something rank. He asked her why she had done what she had, told her about his feelings, demanded an answer, but on getting nothing for an answer but sobs from her, he gave her a card and left. And here I am telling you this story, hearing it from my friend, who heard from Anand and that girl on their wedding day…………

A

He had changed. The winds of Kota had given him a cold, the thing he felt awkward when his friends did it, he was doing it himself. The disease was “watching girls”. Yes, he used to say to his friends, “What, have you never seen a girl before? are the an alien form, new to us that you have to speacially go on gedhis to see them.” But, now, he noticed every girl walking past him, like they were something on display.

But, he was not that far along. He was still a good kid, just looking for love. He was never attached to his parents or family, so tried to find love from friends, or perhaps a girl friend. Whatever it was, he decided that he would start practicing the Game(Pick ups). So he strated carrying out the tasks in The Rules of the Game, grasped every aspect of the game, and finally started as a rookie. He tried to practice online first. So he sent friend requests to a couple of girls on orkut. You know, a couple of good profiles he found in his friends’ friends list. Thats how he met A(name not to be disclosed, so just A).

They hit it off the first time they chatted, for like 5 hours… and not a dull moment I tell you. He was taking it slowly, you know, following the game, slowly getting past veils of the female mind….. They decided to chat everyday. And they do, almost everyday, and he slowly starts getting attached to her. He even number closes her. When she doesn’t come online for 3 days once, he calls her and they talk for like 20 minutes. Nothing special right, but it was turning into something. Slowly, chats became less frequent and calls went everyday. They talked from 11:30 in the night to 4:30, one night. It was the longest phone conversation he had ever had. By now, he had also seen her pictures, she was more cute than pretty. He slowly started getting more attached to her, started missing her during daytime, thinking about topics to talk about at night, thinking about her. But he felt wrong, he felt like it wasn’t fair to A, he was getting these feelings for her, when she considered him only as a friend. He wasn’t attracted to her earlier, why now? He kept thinking and thinking for 2 days and then it finally dawned on him, one day when he was walking towards his classes. He was trying to find that girl in A. He had never got to know that girl, not talk to her, and he was trying to find her image in A. It may not be considered a big deal, but he knew it was for him, and he broke down, he wanted to just scream, let out all the frustration, not only about this, but about all of it, everything he was trying to forget about while talking with A.

“I felt like putting a bullet between the eyes of every Panda that wouldn’t screw to save its species.

I wanted to open the dump valves on oil tankers and smother all those French beaches I’d never see.

I wanted to breathe smoke…… I felt like destroying something beautiful.”                   – Fight Club

These dialogues were ringing in his ears as he climbed stair after stair, and he finally decided, that he would get over with the previous chapter first. So he called a couple of buddies in his home town told them to find out her orkut profile. He doesn’t want anything to work out, no, its more his curiosity that is getting the better of him. He just wants to talk to her once, and he knows the chapter would be closed after that. He doesn’t want this to haunt his love life forever. He wants to find out what it was that appealed to him, that’s stopping him from moving on.

He’s still friends with A, a better friend than he was. They still chat, and still talk on the phone for hours, and he hopes they will continue to be good friends.

And he has changed, he is out of the narrow minded trance he had dived into. He does not “bird watch” anymore and is more than confident while approaching someone, whether a guy or a girl. He feels more bright, more positive while talking, not caring much about public opinion. I am not saying it is because of this story, it might be because of the whole experience, but he can say that coming to Kota proved to be a fruitful decision.

P.S. I hope you have watched fight club, if u haven’t, you definitely should, its one of the best movies out there.

  1. Awww Perx, it’s not like that at all, I still enjoy reading your posts a lot. Every time you comment on my blog, I always check yours to see if you’ve updated, lol. While depression isn’t good, it serves a purpose, and this blog is like a diary, get it all out, sort it out and if you really want, I can give you some really depressing stories so things don’t seem so bad for you, lol.

Interesting story about Anand and the girl…I wonder if you could sell some movie rights for it? Heehee, kidding. I’m glad they worked it out rather than had a long misunderstanding. The fact that he used his love as an inspiration is great…if only the rest of us could be that proactive. Lucky guy, he also had supportive parents.

I like your story. A bit confusing but I think I understood it. I’m sorry you didn’t get the obvious happy ending (boy and girl fall in love) but I don’t know if you even wanted it. But it sounds like you gained a lot of understanding and confidence from it, so that has to be a good point. I’m glad you’re happy with your decision…hope everything else around you works out even better. :-)

Do you watch football? Right now, I’m watching Germany vs Turkey, listening to the soundtrack from Kismat Konnection and typing on your blog, lol, how’s that for multitasking? Yay, Germany win…cool last 10 mins.

BTW, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, you can find almost all the episodes from all 7 seasons on YouTube. I have little sisters who are addicted to it, lol…and me ;-)

  2. @tigger
lol……. all stories are welcome, bring ‘em on!
Yeah u r right, i did gain a lot from this experience, i feel like i am growing up :P Thanx for the well wishes, I hope everything works out too, and soon :P
No, I don’t really watch any sport….. but GO GERMANY from ny side too……
Thanx, i’ll try to find those on youtube
Hey, btw have u seen fight club…. one heck of a movie, ain’t it?
and are u there on orkut?

  3. Interesting especially your story. From what I got of it, I thought you were searching more for closure [from Chapter 1] than for love. Life’s a river my friend, more swans will come by, if one passes by you, bid it adieu but don’t spend too much time looking back lest theres a waterfall ahead. :)

I have yet to see Fight Club but I will after such solid recommendation. :)

Hope to read more from you! Keep writing! :)

  4. Lol, well, recently I read a story about some poor stupid kid who committed suicide because his father confiscated his Wii. Apparently it was his birthday, and he took his birthday money and went out and bought a Wii game. When he got home his sister was using the TV and refused to let him use it. He started fighting with her and his father got angry with him and took away his Wii. Then the kid hung himself with his tie…

So you can take blessings out of this story. Your father isn’t such a jerk. You don’t have an evil sister (I don’t know whether you have any siblings). You aren’t so bloody stupid as this idiotic kid. Lol, did it help?

Glad you feel like you’re growing up, but don’t hurry too much. Maturity is overrated, lol.

Seriously, no sports, not even cricket? Lol, you know you’re going against the Indian stereotype there. Lol, I don’t know how I could survive if I didn’t have a reason to hate random people because they’re Man Utd supporters…joking. Just don’t be a ManU supporter, lol.

I have seen Fight Club…interesting movie but just a one-time watch for me. The ending was so weird, shooting himself to stop himself and everything still blows up!

Nope, I don’t use Orkut, only on Facebook. You?

  5. @tigger
Yeah, I guess I can extract happy moments from that story…… did he really commit suicide just because of a wii? Another quote from fight club here: ” The things we own end up owning us”
No yaar, I do watch cricket or tennis sometimes but only when there’s nothing else on TV, I don’t even know which player is which…:P Yeah, I know Indians are crazy abt cricket, but I just don’t see the big deal if we lose a match or a cup, i guess there are more important things to worry about like global warming, or poverty than worrying abt ur team…..
Ok, i won’t be ManU supporter, I won’t even google it to find out what it is :P
I think u didn’t see beyond the layers in fight club… see it was about The narrator coming to peace with his other self, tyler…. it wasn’t about stopping himself
Yeah, i do have an account on facebook, but rarely use it, most people here in india use orkut….

  6. @Ashish
    Golden words man! Totally!
But u see, I’m so hung up, that i can’t concentrate forward… so i’ve decided to swim back a bit, talk to her, and then continue forward, just for my satisfaction, and i guess u r right, i am looking for closure there…..but i am looking for love too, at another level

  7. :) Really nicely written, and so easy to identify with…Happens to all of us some time or the other, and some things have life-changing potential…..

  8. Nice, I like the story. But for once, I don’t want to comment on it. I hope you don’t mind. Maybe I will, later.

  9. Nice work man, both stories are gud, and the best thing about them is that they end on a positive note. I lkie that. :)

  10. @phoenix
Yeah, they do, and you get these moments when u never expect them

    @ish
    its ok dude..

    @anand
thanx for the appreciation but they weren’t stories, but true incidents, just written as stories. i’m happy u liked them…. keep visiting!

  11. Um, I’m sure he had bigger problems because it’s obviously not normal to take yourself out coz of a game, but I guess it might have been the last straw? Dunno, kids today are really weird!

I agree with you, there are more important things and sports rivalries like India-Pakistan get ridiculous sometimes but for me, supporting a team is just fun. ManU, or Manchester United is a English Premier League football team and I hate them, because I support Arsenal, lol.

So the other part of him wanted to destroy the world economy? Because his life was so meaningless, is that why Tyler Durden came out?

Lol, well, most people in SA use Facebook.

  12. @tigger
I think kids today are totally smart…. I have a 3 year old neice and no one can beat her at lying, she knows how to blame others for everything she does, she even blames her imaginary friend if no one else around :P
lol, well best of luck to arsenal for the euro cup.
No, yaar, actually the narrator was frustrated with the world, you know the way it was becoming, how we have just becum consumers from humans, we are now just resources for the rich and its a cycle, cuz the one under you by economy is a resource for you, and u r a resource for the ones above you…….., remember when tyler words his thoughts when he and the narrator meet at a bar, after his apartment gets destroyed…… tyler came to vent his frustration away, do something about it, and at last, the narrator comes to peace with it.

  13. Lol, they’re smart but they lack common sense…especially American kids, or is that just me who thinks like that?

Um, the Euro Cup is just for national teams, lol, not club teams. But the next season starts in a few weeks, lol, I’ll bore you with details and my immense love of all things Arsenal.

But trying to take out the world economy because of frustration…seems a bit extreme, lol. On the other hand, when you have a split-personality, I guess you’re already kinda mentally disturbed.

  14. @tigger
koi baat nahi, you can tell me all u want abt the teams, i never get bored talking with frnds, ask my frnds if u don’t believe me, i am a good listener.
yeah, of course its extreme, he wasn’t happy with the way the world was working, so he decided to do something abt it…… he was mentally disturbed, tabhi to he even had insomnia in the 1st place..

  15. Lol, well thanks, and hey, you never know, I might turn you into an Arsenal supporter ;-)

Hmm, insomnia isn’t that strange, but the idea that he had to go to places and cry was a bit strange…crying is good, but if it’s the only way to get a decent nights sleep…not good.

  16. Hey perx……..

I’ve visited ur blog for the first time and believe me, the AIR 76 post was one of the best I’ve read so far.

You are damn good yaar……….I was also an IIT aspirant…..not as great as this AIR76 guy. This story brings an inspiration to overcome ur weaknesses.

Now, I’ve got one more good writer to learn from. :)

  17. @tigger
Yeah, u might, but where will i watch the games? I got no tv here…..

    @intutius
First of all thanx for visiting and liking my blog…..
and this air 76 story is totally true man, no fiction… I have just written it up, God is the one who thought it.

  18. Ah well, I’ll make you a supporter in spirit if not in mind, lol. So how do you survive without TV?

  19. @tigger
pata nahi yaar, laptop k sahare, warna abhi tak waapis jaa chuka hota… :P

  20. Lol, bechara. Can’t you put in a TV tuner card on your laptop? Basic TV is better than no TV.

  21. @tigger
nahi yaar, waise bhi tv pe kuch khaas to aata nahi, and there isn’t a cable socket available either…… i don’t even miss it anymore….
